Luther music professors’ composition and efficiency to be featured on MLK Day nationwide broadcast | Headlines

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, American Public Radio’s most-listened-to classical music radio present, Efficiency Right now, will function a brand new work written and carried out by Luther School music college. “He Hung His Head and Died (12 Variations for George Floyd)” was composed by Brooke Joyce, Luther School professor of music and composer in residence. The Unison Piano Duo, comprised of Luther professors of music Du Huang and Xiao Hu, premiered the piece on Dec. 16, 2020 from Luther’s Jenson-Noble Corridor of Music.

Fred Youngster, notable host of Efficiency Right now since 2000, calls Joyce’s composition an “evocative and shifting new work.”

“The MLK vacation has all the time been particular for us on Efficiency Right now, and it is an honor to have this glorious new piece by Professor Joyce as a part of our program,” Youngster stated.

Efficiency Right now is broadcast on Minnesota Public Radio Classical at 1 p.m. weekdays and on Iowa Public Radio at 5 p.m. weekdays.
